MEET CLAIRE NICHOLS -OUR NEW 'REACH' PROJECT WORKER
Claire will be working in our five schools from September. We look forward to welcoming her, working with her and supporting her as she establishes relationships with each of them. She kindly sent in this 'bio' about herself.

I'm really excited to be working with you from September! My name is Claire and I'm the lead worker for the REACH project, linking rural churches and schools together with creative children's work. I have three grown up children and am married to Matthew. I've worked for St Mary's Church for 10 years as a children's and families worker but my role is expanding from September so that I will be working across nine schools, a messy church, two preschools and leading Uffculme Toddler Group too. I love working with children, finding creative ways to share faith and finding ways to link church, school and wider communities. When I'm not working I'm often found at our allotment or at our local library. I enjoy knitting, sewing my own clothes, crafting, baking cakes, and having a chat over a cuppa!

Depsite the extreme heat in July plenty of activities took place, particularly in Halberton, Sampford Peverell, and Uplowman.

There were two weddings - one at Sampford and one at Halberton, and a christening at Uplowman. Also, a Bring and Share lunch to say thank you to those who support St John's at Sampford - including flower arrangers, bell ringers, tree wardens - and a very well attended Messy Church with 'Professor Bumble' demonstrating Circus skills for all to learn.

On Saturday August 1st we were delighted to welcome Halberton History Society for a cream tea and an opportunity to meet The Berkeley Family and view the dresser / sideboard that they have so kindly donated to us.
On Saturday August 1st we were delighted to welcome Halberton History Society for a cream tea and an opportunity to meet The Berkeley Family and view the dresser / sideboard that they have so kindly donated to us.
The sideboard was initially presented to Revd. Sackville Hamilton Berkeley in 1864 by 271 parishioners in grateful thanks for his care and ministry whilst curate in the parish and has remained in the family ever since. Martin Berkeley, Revd. Berkeley’s Great Great Great Nephew, told us the amazing story of how it had travelled with the family including to Ireland and had lived in a cider barn for some years until recently. The cider barn is no longer required and none of the present family are able to find a space for it so they have very kindly gifted it to us. Martin and his sister Emma also shared some of the history of the extended Berkeley Family, a branch or which still lives at Berkeley Castle in Gloucestershire.

LIFEPATH TIVERTON
LIFEPATH TIVERTON
Four people from SPTMC took part in Lifepath Tiverton at the beginning of June -Steph Packham and Pam Holley from Uplowman, and Mandy and Christopher Rowley from Sampford Peverell. Nearly 300 Yr 4 children from the Tiverton area attended over 3 days and experienced the life and times of the Wesley family.
Four people from SPTMC took part in Lifepath Tiverton at the beginning of June -Steph Packham and Pam Holley from Uplowman, and Mandy and Christopher Rowley from Sampford Peverell. About forty volunteers from churches in the Tiverton area took part over the three days. It was fairly exhausting, but rewarding to be part of such a great project. The children's behavious was exemplary, as they enjoyed activities in Susanna's kitchen, Charles'house, the apothcary's shop and Samuel's study.

Aqua Bears is a toddler group which takes place in a swimming pool allowing water confidence, play, singing, a bible story and allowing families to connect. If you would like to know more about this group, please contact Steph Packham

Devon’s first eight Lay Pioneers have been presented with their certificates in Pioneer Mission by Bishop Mike at the Bishop’s Palace in Exeter and Steph Packham, Ordinand in our Mission Community, was one of them.
Devon’s first eight Lay Pioneers have been presented with their certificates in Pioneer Mission by Bishop Mike at the Bishop’s Palace in Exeter and Steph Packham, Ordinand in our Mission Community, was one of them.
The course, which is run by the Church Mission Society, trains and supports those with a heart for mission outside of the church walls. Pioneering begins with a willingness to follow Jesus to the edges and to reach out into our communities to make a difference.
